Stock Rating

The Stock Rating is based upon the Slope, Volatility, Performance, and Swing Time (All Described Below). Depending upon the Noiseless Return Calculation selected the calculation process the effect of the Volatility, Performance, and Swing time will be weighted differently. Below is a table of the Weightings.

+EQ Equal Weight 1 1 1
+Vol Favor Volatility 3 1 1
+Perf Favor Performance 1 3 1
+Swing Favor Swing Time 1 1 3

A Stocks Rating can be easily compared to any other stock in our database, the larger the number the more likely the stock will outperform the market over the selected time frame. (See Methodology for more information about time frames). Members with paid access can see a historical report of past stock ratings and the stocks performance over various time frames. For a free sample of such a report view any Nasdaq 100 stock, such as INTC.

Slope

The slope is little more than the current rate of change of the Noiseless Return.com Indicator (for more information about the indicator itself, read our methodology). The larger the number the stronger the stocks current out performance, the more negative the number the stronger the stocks current under performance. In general a stock that is outperforming is likely to continue to outperform, while a stock that is under performing will likely continue to do so.

Volatility

The most common measure of volatility is known as beta, which is a simple measure. A stock with a beta of 2 means that the stock will move about twice as fast as the overall market, however the problem with beta is that it doesn’t take into account how quickly the stock moves to the upside vs. the downside. The Noiseless Return.com measure of Volatility tries to do just that, it looks at how quickly the stock likes to outperform verses how quickly it likes to under perform. Any reading above 50% means the stock moves faster to the upside than the downside, while a reading below 50% means the stock moves faster to the downside. A mouse over of the value will show you the min and max values used to calculate the percentage.

Performance

The Noiseless Return.com Performance rating is another attempt to improve upon a more common measures. A lot like a stock’s batting average, the performance rating seeks to measure how much the stock has outperformed verses under performed. The problem with batting average is that it doesn’t take into account the value of the performance, only the binary value of it the stock did or did not outperform. The Noiseless Return.com Performance rating takes into account not only the amount of time spent out or under performing, but also the value of that out or under performance. A value above 50% means the stock has outperformed the market more than under performed, while a reading under 50% means the stock has under performed more than out outperformed.

Swing Time

Since the Noiseless Return.com indicator also throws out trades we can keep track of the average number of days between trades, as well as how many days it has been since the last trade. How far into the average trade cycle the stock currently is the Swing Time. A mouse over of the percentage value will give you exactly how many days into the average trade length the stock currently is. You would always like to catch stock as early in the swing as possible. Unless Swing Timing is being overweighting any value less than 50% is considered to be a positive, otherwise it is negative. If Swing Time is being overweighed than any value less than 40% is considered to be a positive.
